they might be giants
they might be giants may have been the first concert i ever went to
recently, i was thinking of the band they might be giants.
they are by no means a ‘niche’ band, they’ve had many popular songs, ‘birdhouse in your soul’, ‘istanbul (not constantinople’, the intro for ‘malcom in the middle’ and they even did the outro song for the ‘mickey mouse clubhouse’ show.
i remember watching the music videos for their kids albums ‘Here Come the ABCs (2005)’ and ‘Here Come the 123s (2008)’, as we had both CDs, which came with the videos. i cant say i remember the ‘ABCs’ one, but i certainly remember the ‘123s’.
some of the standouts of the album for me from when i was a little jit, are ‘Seven Days Of The Week (I Never Go To Work)’, ‘Nonagon’, ‘Seven’, and ‘Ooh La! Ooh La!’.
around a year ago, i listened to their 1990 album ‘flood’. their music is so stupid, so funny, and way too damn catchy. standouts are ‘istanbul, not constantinople’, ‘dead’, and ‘women and men’.
i can remember a time where i got my guitar teacher to teach me how to play ‘Dinner Bell’ on the guitar, which, listening back to the song, doesnt have any guitar in it at all? its all piano. what the hell did he teach me? it mustve been torture for this guy to listen to the song on repeat.
anyways, about my first concert. it was (probably) June 11th 2011. TMBG were playing at the Luminato Festival! do i remember a single thing from it? no. all ive got is word from my parents, so im believing them.
i got a spotify notification that TMBG was releasing a new album, so i decided i’d listen to the single they released, ‘Wu-Tang’… they still have it. its still just as catchy, and they’ve still got their same thing going. if it aint broke, dont fix it, right?
kind of a nothing post today, but its the first one back in a while, i needed something kind of easy. maybe.
heres this post’s song, Nonagon by They Might Be Giants.
